How can i subtract a month or months from a date?

I want to subtract a month or month from a date. For example; a month back from 01.01.2014. Result is 01.12.2013.
in cell a1 01.08.2014 in cell b1 "2" (months) I want to subtract 2 months from 01.08.2014 to show it in cell c1 as 01.06.2014

you may try this formula. Suppose the date is in cell H10 then

=DATE(YEAR(H10),MONTH(H10)-1,DAY(H10))

this is give result as 01/12/2013.
